General Information ^
Tanzania is one of the unique destinations on the African continent that has yet to be discovered by many.
It is a land of many wonders hubbing an un-paralleled diversity of fauna and flora. Kilimanjaro,
the highest permanently snow-capped free standing mountain in Africa, the exotic Islands of Zanzibar,
the finest game sanctuaries of Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Ruaha,
Selous and the Marine Park of Mafia Island are only but a few of the living examples.
The scenery, topography and very friendly people harbour the growth of excellent cultural tourism beach holidays,
game hunting, historical and archaeological ventures – and certainly the best wildlife photographic safaris on the continent.
The tourism industry provides excellent investment opportunities in construction and management of hotels,
lodges and restaurants, infrastructure ventures, aviation projects, training institutions,
tour operations, travel agencies and marketing organisations.
The industry’s mission statement that forms the basis of the tourism policy is to develop sustainable
quality tourism that is ecologically friendly to the conservation and restoration of the environment and its
people’s culture. In so doing the industry seeks to maximise the net gains that emanate from the various tourism activities.
It is for this reason that the Government is now highly concerned with the improvement of the infrastructure quality
and diversity, ease of destination entry formalities, relaxation of foreign exchange regulations and controls, revision
of applicable taxes and maintenance of peace, stability and security. As a stimulant, the private sector is increasingly
investing in the various tourist plants, improvement of destination access from major sources and within marketing promotion and
training of the human resource.

|
Parks and Reserves ^
|
| |
|
Northern Parks
|
The most developed, but unspoilt, Tanzanian tourist route is the Northern circuit which encompasses many of
the parks and reserves in Northern Tanzania. The circuit includes many famous national parks and landmarks:
Serengeti National Park
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa's highest mountain).
Other famous parks include:
Tarangire National Park
Lake Manyara National Park
Arusha National Park
|
|
Southern Parks
|
|
In the south of Tanzania lie some of the most untouched game reserves in Africa:
Selous Game Reserve
Remote and wild, the Selous is the largest game reserve in Africa.
The Rufiji River flows through the reserve attracting great herds of Tanzania elephant and
allowing the visitor to experience the reserve by boat. The reserve has the largest number of elephants
out of all the reserved wildlife areas in the country. It also has a wide variety of other animals including lion, wild dog and crocodiles.
Ruaha National Park
Due to its relative inaccessibility Ruaha is Africa as it once was yet with all the comforts that today's traveller expects.
The name derives from the great Ruaha River which flows along its entire border creating spectacular gorges.
The Ruaha protects a wide variety of habitats including evergreen forest and swamp and contains the largest elephant population of Tanzania.
|
|
Western Parks
|
|
In Western Tanzania, on the banks of Lake Tanganyika, lie two parks that are famous for their wild chimpanzees and
the research that goes on into animal behaviour.
Mahale Mountains National Park
Gombe Stream National Park
|
|
Zanzibar and Islands ^
|
|
The Spice island of Zanzibar lies off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean (see map).
It is famous for once being the commercial centre of East Africa and the last place to abolish the slave trade.
Today it combines ancient Islamic ruins, noble Arabic houses with miles of white sandy palm fringed beaches and coves.
The ocean offers warm clear blue waters, idyllic islands excellent reefs for snorkelling and diving, fantastic deep sea fishing,
water sports and of course delicious fresh fish. And if you thought that wasn't enough, visiting the Spice plantations
(cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom and others) or haggling for carvings in the Central Market is great fun too.
